baadshah of Bollywood

The ‘baadshah of Bollywood’ loves Punjabi food and hospitality so much that he always gains a little weight every time he visits the state, shared actor Shah Rukh Khan, in the city with co-star Deepika Padukone to promote Chennai Express.

Recalling how he put on a lot of weight in three days while shooting for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi with Anushka Sharma in Amritsar, King Khan said, “I always gain weight when I am shooting in Punjab, as the people here are foodies. Punjabi food is the best part of the state, and Punjabi hospitality is irresistible.”

“Punjabis are loud and full of life, and have a rich culture, which is why every single Bollywood movie has a Punjabi touch. Even though Chennai Express is a South-based movie, we still have Honey Singh singing a tribute to South India’s superstar Rajnikanth,” he said while addressing students and staff at LPU.

He said director Rohit Shetty was supposed to direct the remake of the 1982 classic Angoor with him, but then decided to go for Chennai Express.

About her Tamil accent in the movie, Deepika Padukone said, being a South Indian, she knows the language, but had a hard time mixing it up with Hindi. “I have even compiled the ‘bakwas dictionary’ carrying all my Tamil dialogues from the movie,” she joked.
