Punjabi singer and lyricist Deepak Kumar, alias Deepu Kakowalia, 26, committed suicide at his house at the Prem Vihar Tibba Road on Thursday. He was planning to release his music album, but was allegedly facing financial crunch, due to which he was under depression.
At the time of the incident, his wife Neelam and other family members were in another room. His mother Vijay Rani raised an alarm and called neighbours. The Basti Jodhewal police have filed proceedings under Section 174 (police to enquire and report on suicide) of the CrPC in this regard.
Basti Jodhewal police station SHO Inspector Dilbagh Singh said Kakowali committed suicide on Thursday. His mother was the first to witness his body hanging from a ceiling fan at 11.30am. The SHO added that the post-mortem examination will be held on Friday.
Kakowalia had written songs for many Punjabi singers. He had released his own album a year back and was planning to release another this year. Many singers, lyricists and actors have expressed condolence on his demise.
