Noted Punjabi singer Gippy Grewal has been asked to appear before the district police in a complaint of an alleged chit fund fraud with a person by a company of which Grewal is a brand ambassador.
The victim of the alleged fraud, Lucky, a resident of Amarpura Basti here, in his complaint with the police, has alleged that he had deposited `1 lakh in his name and `3 lakh in the name of his relative Jaswant Singh in Live India Trading Company in October last year.
He said the company had promised him 10% interest per month for one year on the deposited amount and return of the full amount after this period. He alleged that company failed to fulfil the promise and did not pay back the full amount.
SHO, Canal Colony police station, Gurpreet Singh, who is investigating the case, said that as the singer's name is mentioned in the complaint as the brand ambassador of the company, he has been asked to record his statement. He said that the singer has sought some time and assured to appear someday next week.
SSP, Bathinda, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, said that the police are inquiring into the matter and the case is still on a preliminary stage. He said that as Grewal is th ebrand ambassador of the company, he has been asked just to record his statement in this regard.
The state government, on Tuesday, ordered all additional deputy commissioners (development) to take action against the "illegal" chit fund companies as no such company has been authorised to operate in the state.
