Punjabi university professor appointed as UGC advisory committee member

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has appointed Prof Gurmeet Singh Maan, director of Centre for Advanced Media Studies (CAMS), Punjabi University, as a member of its high-level advisory committee for the UGC Assistance to the Centre for Culture, Media and Governance of Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi under its special assistance programme for five years.

Prof Maan has also been appointed as UGC's advisory committee member for UGC-Special Assistance Programme (SAP) for the department of communication and journalism, Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam, Tirupati.

Talking about the responsibilities of his new appointment, Mann said that the committee is expected to play an active role for the full term of the programme by way of monitoring, evaluating, reviewing the progress and performance and advise the UGC on various aspects of releasing grants under SAP.

He added that in addition, the committee monitors and reviews the academic teaching, research, collaborative extension and future programmes and procurement of the equipment.

"It also looks into international collaborative programmes, training of the students, use of the research and technology output, patent filing or commercialization of the output, resource generation or patent promotion, attachment of research students and other related activities under the programme," he said.
