To promote Sikh culture and Punjabi language across the globe, the Punjabi University has extended support to run short-term courses for the Sikh community residing in Malaysia.
Vice-chancellor Jaspal Singh, who had gone on a five-day visit to Malaysia under a special programme of the foreign affairs ministry and the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), hosted by the Indian High Commission, said efforts would be made to enable more than one lakh Sikhs and a large number of Punjabis settled in Malaysia to learn Punjabi language.
The VC said that during the trip, he delivered three lectures on Sikh religion, philosophy and tradition at different locations to apprise the local audience about the importance of Sikh religion and its scriptures.
He also interacted with members of various Sikh organisations working for the promotion of Punjabi language and discussed their requirements and the difficulties faced by them in their attempt to learn the language.
"I promised them academic help and patronage for promotion of Punjabi language, art and culture," he said.
