For the fifth time in a row, Punjabi University, Patiala, has won the prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy-2015-16 for excellence in sports. The varsity scored 84,895 points for its performance in sports at the inter-university, national and international sports events.

Overall, Punjabi University was adjudged country’s best in sports for the ninth time.

University’s sports director Gurdeep Kaur Randhawa said that it was a proud moment for the university and its affiliated colleges. It was the collective effort of the players, coaches and authorities.

Every year, the President gives away the trophy at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Punjabi University vice-chancellor Jaspal Singh will receive it on August 29, the National Sports Day.
