Punjabi varsity holds international seminar on religion

A three-day international seminar on 'Spirituo-Ethical Concerns of Religion' commenced at the Punjabi University here on Monday.

The seminar is being organised by the department of encyclopaedia of Sikhism. In his presidential address, vice chancellor (V-C) Dr Jaspal Singh stressed that spiritual and ethical concerns were important, but they were losing their significance. Moreover, socio-ethical aspect of religion was based on practice where every religious group had his own faith and belief.

“Firm faith in religious values liberates a man from the clutches of negative thoughts and motives. Religious values tell us how to live in peace and harmony, while having different religions, cultures, races, rank and file,” he said. Professor HK Kaul delivered the inaugural address.

He emphasised the significance of spirituality. Dr Hari Shankar Prasad, professor at the department of buddhist studies, Delhi University, elaborated upon spiritual and ethical concerns on the basis of Vedic, Buddhist, and Sikh traditions.
