Punjabi University has prepared a comprehensive design with the vision and objective of promoting Punjabi language, art and culture in its entirety.

The valedictory function of the 29th International Punjabi Conference became the platform to make an announcement by vice-chancellor Jaspal Singh to build a Punjabi Heritage Centre on the university campus depicting various aspects of Punjabi culture and heritage.

Earlier, he had declared to make a multimedia capsule depicting the rich cultural heritage of Punjab, starting from Rig Veda till the contemporary period.

To meet the objective, experts and scholars from all fields, including archaeology, architecture, geology, history and literature will be involved in preparing a design for the project. Cutting-edge equipment and skilled manpower from the university's Media Centre and help from the outside experts will also be sought to give a final shape to the prestigious dream, he added.

Expressing his concern about the vanishing traces of our heritage, Jaspal Singh said, "We will have to reinvent means, modes, techniques and strategies for passing on our cultural values to the youth of the contemporary period and the forthcoming generations."

The conference was organised by the university's department of Punjabi language development with its head Jasbir Kaur highlighting the activities and achievements of the department.

Former head Dhanwant Kaur said more than 500 delegates from India and abroad participated in discussions following presentation of over 50 research papers to evolve a concrete plan for the promotion of Punjabi.
