Punjabi varsity professors get Japanese WADA memorial award

The Japan Mendel Society conferred the WADA memorial award for the years 2013 and 2014 on professor VK Singhal and professor RC Gupta of Punjabi University's botany department for their academic achievements in the field of cytology.

The Japan Mendel Society conferred the WADA memorial award for the years 2013 and 2014 on professor VK Singhal and professor RC Gupta of Punjabi University's botany department for their academic achievements in the field of cytology.

Professor Toshiyuki Nagata, emeritus professor of University of Tokyo and president of Japan Mendel Society, and Shigenuki Kawano, professor of life system at University of Tokyo, visited the Punjabi varsity to give away the awards on Tuesday.

After the award ceremony, university vice chancellor Jaspal Singh congratulated both the faculty members on recognition of their academic accomplishments by an international society.

The VC praised the department for harmonious atmosphere and significant academic contributions made by the faculty members since its inception.

Later, both the foreign dignitaries planted saplings of medicinal plants in the botanical garden of the department.
