Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) in its executive meeting has decided to approach the Ministry of Human Resource Development to ask them to reconsider the capping on Academic Performance Index (API) scores for the promotion of university teachers. PUTA president Devinder Singh said that PUTA was of the view that research could not be quantified. "Universities should be encouraged to pursue only quality research. Instead of quantifying research, the MHRD should device mechanisms to improve quality of research at universities," said Singh.

PUTA also stated that it would also seek support of the faculty of neighbouring universities and invite the HRD minister to Chandigarh to put their views before her.

PUTA also stated that PU senate had not cleared 2nd amendment regarding API (capping) and would not be effective for the university promotions.

The executive also decided to approach vice-chancellor on early formation of a comprehensive rotation policy of headship in PU institutes and departments.
