Undeterred by a spinal injury that left him paralytic below the neck five years ago, 28-year-old Udit Sharma is keen to help various kinds of medically challenged people.
A management graduate from Ghaziabad, Sharma has found a solace in Buddhist way of meditation to overcome his challenges and now successfully running an e-commerce business website ‘fashioncounty.com’.
In Panipat on Thursday for a public felicitation function organised by Durga Pathi Charitable Trust, Sharma said that he was keen to start a social organisation to help those undergoing different medical conditions.
“My personal experience reveals that medical sector in India is not much patient-friendly. People lack proper guidance for their treatment and doctors do not counsel patients to lead a dignified life in odd medical condition. I am to offer a platform where patients could not only be supported financially but counsel for their required treatments, motivation and care giving,” he told Hindustan Times.
Sharma said that he was treated by major private and public institutes in the country, but nowhere was he assisted on how to cope up with the medical challenges.
“While partying with colleagues in Gurgaon in December, 2009, I jumped into the swimming pool and faced severe spinal injury. Though doctors opine that I would never recover from my C-4 and C-5 (cervical vertebrae) but I do not intend to live in despair. I thank my family members and friends for supporting me in overcoming my personal conditions,” says the wheelchair- bound Sharma.
He meets people with different medical conditions and tries to infuse fresh energy in them by citing his personal example.
“Life of Gandhi ji and meditation as per Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism remained my source of inspiration. Daily sessions of meditation help me to come out of bouts of despair. I am indeed hoping to find a doctor who could help me improving my health conditions as miracles in the medical world do happen all around,” he said.
