Gurdaspur will become a "model city" from the development point of view after the completion of two projects worth Rs 58 crore, chief parliamentary secretary and Gurdaspur legislator Gurbachan Singh Babbehali of the Shiromani Aikali Dal has said.

The projects will give the city better sewerage, water supply and uninterrupted supply of electricity. Babbehali claimed this at a gathering after distributing cheques for Rs 6.50 crore to the sports clubs, religous institutions and panchayats of the villages on Thursday at PWD Rest House here.

He said 100 new transformers worth Rs 16 crore would be installed and all old cables replaced.

"The government is spending Rs 44 crore on providing the city with 100% sewerage. A district administrative complex will be built for Rs 60 crore, and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal already has laid its foundation stone," he added.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court chief justice would inaugurate the new judicial complex on Saturday, and on August 28, at the four-day Babbehali Chhinjh event, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal would give away prizes to the winners, the MLA said.
