The Telecom Regulatory authority of India (TRAI) has asked people not to fear mobile tower radiation, saying the waves are not harmful.

“The World Helath Organisation is conducting a study on it and it has not been substantiated that mobile tower radiation is harmful,” TRAI’s principal advisor Sunil Kumar Gupta said during a consumer outreach programme (COP) here.

Gupta added that mobile tower radiation fell under the “non-ionising category”.

He also said 3,000 mobile towers in the state were inspected and none of them was found radiating over the prescribed limit.

“Since there are more than one billion subscribers, TRAI’s responsibility has also increased,” Gupta added.

TRAI’s joint adviser K Chandra Choodan said in the last two years nearly 224 consumer outreach programmes were conducted and another 96 planned for 2015-16.
