Taking a jibe on the reports of elevation of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi being promoted as the party’s national president soon, state revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Thursday said that Rahul should be promoted at the earliest as his promotion would take the party towards extinction.

Majithia said even Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Captain Amarinder Singh and former PPCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa had also raised doubts on the leadership of Rahul.

Majithia was addressing mediapersons on the sidelines of a function organised to commemorate the 66th death anniversary of Baba Prem Singh Murale Wale in Begowal in the district.

Answering a media query on sounding a high alert in the state ahead of the Operation Bluestar anniversary on June 6, Majithia said that the Congress and radical Sarbat Khalsa leaders were a threat to peace in Punjab.
