The completion of the Ludhiana-Chandigarh railway link was a priority, railway miniser Pawan Kumar Bansal said here on Saturday, but declined to set a time frame for it.

Asked about the bullet train project, he said there would be five of these trains in the first phase, and the first would run between Delhi and Ahmedabad. He refused to give any deadline for the initiation of that project as well.

He was addressing the media during his visit to Bhaini Sahib, headquarters of the Namdhari sect, 35 kilometers from Ludhiana. He was in Bhaini Sahib to attend the bhog ceremony of Satguru Jagjit Singh, spiritual head of Namdhari Sikhs.

Bansal also condemned the Delhi gang-rape incident and said he was in favour of stringent punishment to the culprits. The public reaction to the issue was justified, he added.
