Rail roko: Passengers suffer as trains delayed, cancelled

On the call of eight Kisan organisations, rail roko agitation was held here on Wednesday. Due to the protest at different places, many trains were delayed and cancelled at the Ludhiana railways station.

Till Wednesday noon, there was no delay in train schedule but in the evening trains started delaying. Station superintendent Yashwant Singh said, “There is some delay in trains schedule and we have redirected Shan-e Punjab from Ludhiana to Delhi station and Shatabdi express is going back to Delhi”.

According to sources, there were many trains which were cancelled and diverted. Gathered information from the station revealed that the train numbers 2412, 3050, 4632, 8508, 64552, 54602, 5212 were cancelled and 4604, 8238, 3306, 8102 were diverted.

A passenger, Charanjit Bhatia, who came from Malerkotla said, “I have to wait at Malerkotla station and its been 15 minutes that I am waiting for the Amritsar-Nangal train, which had to arrive at 4.30 pm but now they are saying it will arrive at 5.30 pm.”

“We have to catch the Indore train but we were told that it will arrive late. Nobody knows how much time it will take, a passenger said.

Another passenger Rahul, who had to go Mumbai, was also wating for his train but there was no one who can tell him the exact time of his train.

Meanwhile, Kirti Kisan Union president Hardev Singh Sandhu said, “If passengers have to face inconvenience, it’s not us rather the state government is at fault. We are going to organise a meeting tomorrow and may continue our strike. The government should accept our demands and solve the agrarian crisis in Punjab.”
