The government has released a grant of Rs 7 crore out of the total Rs 10 crore to construct a railway underbridge at the railway crossing at Basti Tankan Wali here. Punjab BJP chief Kamal Sharma handed over the cheque for Rs 7 crore to Anuj Parkash, divisional railways manager, Ferozepur, and asked for the early completion of the much- awaited project. Kamal thanked Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal for issuing the grant in the wider interests of residents of the area.
The rest of the amount would be given soon, said DPS Kharbanda, deputy commissioner, Ferozepur. There are a number of localities situated near the railway level crossing at Basti Tankan Wali including Vikas Vihar, Dashmesh Nagar, Braham Nagri, Friends Colony, Rose Avenue besides others and innumerable commuters have to cross the crossing daily.
The crossing is repeatedly closed for “shunting” of trains and remains closed for log period causing a huge inconvenience to the commuters.
