The brief spell of rain that lasted for about an hour though brought the much-needed respite to the residents from the sweltering heat conditions, waterloggings in various localities in the city exposed the municipal corporation's much-talked about preparedness to deal with monsoon rains.

Waterloggings can be seen in areas like Town Hall, Katra Jaimal Singh, Court Road, Putli Ghar area, Green Avenue and Basant Avenue.

Besides pits dug for the BRTS project near Guru Nanak Dev University were also filled with water, leading to stoppage of work.

Even as the MC claimed that it was removing silts from sewers, their efforts didn't see any fine result.

Though the Punjab government makes tall claims of making the Holy City a world class one, unfortunately so far it failed to tackle this basic problem.
