At a time when everything was almost ready at the venue of Union finance minister Arun Jaitley’s rally on July 14, a heavy downpour on Saturday night left the venue waterlogged, while giving a tough time to the local administration.
As officials of the district administration were working overtime for the past 10 days to put everything in place at the rally venue, the rain came as a shocker to them.
On Sunday morning, the entire venue was waterlogged and the carpets drenched. The officials, who rushed to the venue to take stock of the situation, were worried over hovering clouds over the city.
Despite it being an off day for government officials, Sunday turned out too busy for them as the district administration roped in extra machinery and manpower to get the water drained out of the venue.
Even as around 20,000 people are likely to participate in the rally and clouds continue to hover over the city, the administration is yet to make an alternative arrangement for the rally.
Deputy commissioner Pardeep Sabharwal also visited the venue to ensure that all is well.
