Former Vidhan Sabha deputy speaker Bir Devinder Singh has demanded action against Raj Bhawan officials and the Punjab government for not inviting the leader of the opposition to swearing-in of governor VP Singh Badnore and seating the assembly speaker a row behind the deputy chief minister.

He accused the officials of violating the protocol and ignoring leader of opposition Charanjit Singh Channi deliberately. “It amounts to demeaning of the institutions of parliamentary democracy... and reflects poorly on the wisdom of the political masters,” said Bir Devinder.

Even former CM Capt Amarinder Singh, deputy leader of the opposition in Parliament, was not accorded the dignity he deserved, he said. “He was seated in the third row, while Sukhbir Singh Badal and his wife, Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, sat in front. Assembly speaker Charanjit Singh Athwal was also in the second row. For these goof-ups; some heads should roll. The Punjab chief secretary should hold an inquiry... and chief minister Parkash Singh Badal should apologies to the slighted dignitaries.”
