The Congress on Saturday declared Ramanjit Sikki as party candidate for the Khadoor Sabhib assembly bypoll.
The polling is slated for February 13. Sikki, who had earlier shown his reluctance to fight the election, has agreed to the party high command’s wish, said sources. Sikki’s name was cleared by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, they added.
Sikki had resigned from his post in November 2015 over series of sacrilege incidents in Tarn Taran district.
This time he is pitted against Shiromani Akali Dal’s Ravinder Singh Brahmpura, who is son of Akali stalwart Ranjit Singh Brahmpura. Interestingly, Brahmpura Senior had suffered defeat at Sikki’s hands in the last assembly polls in 2012.
