Belying the police claims that the support for controversial sect head Rampal was waning, thousands of his supporters thronged the central jail where the sect head’s hearing was conducted on Saturday.
The police had recently filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana high court urging it to allow Rampal’s case hearing in the jail to avoid chaos created by his supporters outside the court premises.
Rampal supporters from Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan came in large numbers to the Hisar central jail to express their support for the sect head.
Recently, the Hisar police claimed that it had achieved a success in breaking the network of Rampal supporters.
Not satisfied with the Haryana Police probe, Rampal’s supporters were demanding that the inquiry should be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Rampal’s supporters wanted to have his glimpse on the occasion of Guru Purnima.
The next date of hearing has been fixed for September 19. The hearing will be held in the Hisar central jail.
