In an apparent sign of factionalism within the Congress over its decision to field CLP leader Sunil Jakhar as its nominee for Ferozepur parliamentary seat, Anumeet Hira Sodhi, a Youth Congress leader and son of Congress leader and MLA Rana Gurmeet Sodhi, has expressed resentment and declared to call a meeting of his supporters to take a final decision over the development.

Rana Sodhi had been eyeing the party ticket since 2004, but Jagmeet Brar secured it in 2004 as well as 2009, only to lose both times. So, Rana was a frontrunner for the ticket this time but the last-minute change led to the nomination of Jakhar, a threetime MLA.

Rana had got Rai Sikhs (a community with 2.30- lakh votes) a status of SC/ST from then Congress government in Punjab and even persuaded the Congress-led UPA government for this.
