A Kakowal village resident, accused of rape, and his eight accomplices have been booked for allegedly assaulting the relatives of the rape victim.
In his complaint, a resident of Kakowal village said his sister-in-law had filed a complaint against Sukhwinder Singh for raping her. Sukhwinder later availed of bail from the Punjab and Haryana high court and started threatening them with dire consequences, he alleged, adding that he had even filed a police complaint against Sukhwinder for threatening them.
On Sunday, when he, along with his son, were on their way, Sukhwinder, along with his eight accomplices, intercepted them and attacked them, leaving them injured.
Following his complaint, a case under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence commit­ted in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against Sukhwinder and his accomplices, Ghulla, Happy, Mani, Sukha, Jaspal, Borhi, Madan Lal and Prem Chand.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Kuldeep Singh of Meharban police station, said a manhunt had been launched to arrest the accused.
