Former superintendent of police, Gurdaspur, Salwinder Singh surrendered in the court of chief judicial magistrate Mohit Bansal here on Thursday.
He was wanted by the police in a case registered on the statement of one Rajnish Kumar of Gurdaspur at the Gurdaspur city police station under Sections 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The court sent him to judicial custody till May 4.
Meanwhile, Gurdaspur central jail authorities shifted him to Amritsar central jail.
Salwinder courted controversy after reports that he was kidnapped by Pakistani armed terrorists before they attacked the Pathankot airbase on January 1 in 2016. But he was “let off” along with his two companions.
Salwinder is also accused of taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the wife of the complainant Rajnish Kumar and sexually abusing her for extending favour to him in a case.
