The 22-year-old woman from SAS Nagar, who was held captive by a three-wheeler driver and raped repeatedly, has alleged that the driver’s wife helped him commit the crime, but the police let her go scot-free.

She alleged that Gurcharan Singh’s wife had accompanied him, when he came to Kharar, SAS Nagar, to take her to Ludhiana. Besides, she also helped him in holding her captive.

The victim claimed that it was Singh’s daughter who helped her escape from the house in Basant Vihar of Basti Jodhewal.

Talking to Hindustan Times on Monday, the victim said she lived as a paying guest in Kharar. Her roommate once made a call to Singh from her mobile phone, following which he started calling her frequently.

“Singh told me that he owned a boutique in Ludhiana and would give me a better job. To win my confidence, he also made his wife to talk to me, following which I accepted his offer,” she said.

“Around four days ago, Singh, along with his wife, came to Kharar to take me to Ludhiana. He then took me to his house and locked me up in the washroom. Later, he sent his wife somewhere, and in her absence, raped me repeatedly,” she added.

On Sunday, the victim requested one of the five daughters of the accused to help her escape. When the accused was not home, his daughter unlocked the door and helped her get out.

“I then grabbed some chilli powder from the kitchen. When Singh’s wife tried to stop me, I threw chilli powder into her eyes and ran outside. I raised an alarm, following which locals came forward to help me. I then made a call to my parents and narrated the whole incident,” the victim claimed.

She claimed that the accused had sexually exploited two of his five daughters, and one of them had ran away around a year ago.

The 50- year- old accused has already been arrested and booked under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Inspector Harwinder Singh, station house officer (SHO) at Basti Jodhewal police station, said they were investigating whether the accused’s family was aware of his crime, and would take action against all culprits.
