A head constable deployed with the UT traffic police sustained injuries after being knocked down by a car here on Friday. Station house officer (SHO) of Sector 36 police station, inspector Bhupinder Singh, said head constable Parminder Singh was deployed at a naka laid near Sector 35-36 roundabout. A rashly-driven car (HR-29X-8762) was given a signal to stop but the driver tried to flee from the spot and knocked Bhupinder down. He was later rushed to the Government Medical Hospital and College (GMCH) in Sector 32. The SHO added that the car was registered at Ballabgarh, Haryana, and a team has been dispatched to nab the accused.
A case of rash driving for causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others, voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty, assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty and criminal intimidation has been registered under sections 279, 337, 332, 353 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sector 36 police station.
There has been a rise in similar incidents in which cops on duty were hit by vehicles in the past year. More than 15 such cases have been reported in the last 12 months.
