Ravibir Singh Grewal was on Monday elected as president of the Chandigarh Golf Club (CGC) for a one-year term (2017-18).
Grewal, who took over the reins of the management last year after the sudden demise of president IPS Mann, retained the top post. He defeated Ravinder Singh Virk (Ravi) by a margin of 94 votes.
Results about the 11-member executive committee is expected to be out by evening.
The CGC election is always among the most talked about events in Chandigarh’s social calendar, largely due to the elitist tag carried by the club, which has approximately 1800 eligible voters. Who’s who of power circuit figure in CGC’s voter list. On the polling day, 1,137 members cast their vote.
Over the years, the club has produced a number of golfers of national as well as international calibre including Arjuna awardees Jeev Milkha Singh and Harmeet Kahlon.
