Two men were injured after being shot at in Dugri Phase 2 on Monday night.
The victims identified as Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) district senior vice-president Surjit Singh Kochhar and his kin Amarjit Singh were injured after a property dealer, Tajinder Singh, opened fire at them following a quarrel between their children.
Kochhar suffered a bullet injury in his chest, while two bullets hit Amarjit in his chest and stomach.
Both have been admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where their condition has been stated to be critical. Dugri station house officer (SHO) Davinder Chaudhary said, “Amarjit Singh and Tajinder Singh are neighbours. On Monday night, their children entered into a quarrel while playing.
Following which women of both the houses indulged into an argument.”
In his complaint, Amarjit’s brother Sarbjit Singh told police that in the meantime, Tajinder Singh came out and started hurling abuses. Amarjit Singh also called his relative Surjit Singh Kochhar there. Even local residents huddled there to settle the matter amicably and all were sitting in the park for settlement.”
“All of a sudden, Tajinder flashed his licensee pistol and opened fire injuring them and fled,” Sarbjit said.
After the incident, Tajinder Singh, along with his family, has fled after locking the house.
The SHO said, “Police have booked Tajinder Singh under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Arms Act. Police also raided his house, but his house was locked. Police will arrest the accused soon.”
