Laws are not strict enough to serve as a deterrent, so harassment cases involving women are on the rise. Had there been any exemplary punishment in any of the cases, it would have certainly lowered the crime. Women are not encouraged to come out with their grievances, due to which the offenders get encouraged.

To some extent, we can blame society as a whole for the current trend. Boys and girls are not being told properly that they can co-exist together in complete harmony. No one is teaching out young generations values. By creating chasms between males and females we are not doing any good.
Krishna Sharma, student
Crime against women is on the rise mainly because of the negative portrayal of the fairer sex in movies and television, which show women as a 'commodity' and not a human being and youth get influenced by the movies and start treating women as a commodity.
Monika Chhabra, assistant professor
Portrayal of women as 'weaker sex' is one of the main reasons behind spurt in crime against women. Women are normally considered as soft targets by men and they think that they can go scot-free. Women themselves are responsible for their plight to some extent as they don't react.
Kirandeep Kaur, professional We are coming across more cases of sexual harassment as more women are working today, who are bold enough to report the matter to the police. Earlier, girls used to remain confined to their homes. But one can't deny the fact that harassment is on the rise, mainly because our policing is flawed.
Shalini Sharma, student Women are normally considered soft targets as they are taught from childhood to 'suffer without opening their mouths and ignore everything that they don't like. Not reacting in a tricky situation always goes against a woman and emboldens the offender. There is need to change the way we are bringing up our daughters.
Mahima, student To confront the offender head-on is the only solution to evade them. By suffering in silence, women actually become a party to the crime. Women are vulnerable only till the time they remain silent and once they open their mouths, the whole world seems to be on their side. Only a complaint is required to teach offender a lesson for life.
