With parents’ associations protesting the fee hike by private schools across Punjab and their alleged arbitrary style of functioning, some members of one of the associations have claimed that they are receiving threat calls.

The Punjab Parents’ Association told HT that one of its members received a call from an unidentified number on Thursday wherein the caller asked them to stop the work and stop putting information on social media and mobile application about their agitation.

The caller has call recordings in his possession, it added. Hasan Soni, who received the call, said the unidentified man first asked him to stop putting information on his WhatsApp group, Hope Group.

“He asked me to stop sharing information on the group besides being careful in future,” said Hasan Soni.

The association members claimed that they are aware of all the 22 people who are part of that group. Soni said the number from which he has received the call is not active now.

Kamaldeep Singh, president, Punjab Parents’ Association, said if they receive any such calls in the coming days, they will file a police complaint against it.

Slams dist-level monitoring panel

The parents’ association has condemned the five-member district-level monitoring committee formed by the district administration last week.

The association members said since its formation, the committee has not taken action against even a single private school charging exorbitant fee.
