The Punjab Police have made a record recovery of drugs, including heroin and poppy husk, in the state since January this year, director general of police Sumedh Singh Saini said on Wednesday.

Since the beginning of the year, police have seized 348 kg of heroin against 278 kg during the corresponding period last year, he said.

As many as 2.05 lakh kg of poppy husk was seized since January 2013 against 1.5 lakh during the corresponding period last year, the DGP said.

The Punjab Police have sought cooperation of their Haryana and Rajasthan counterparts to launch a crackdown on peddlers of drugs, he said.

The state government is determined to make Punjab drug-free within a year, Saini said.

A meeting will be held tomorrow to identify routes which can be manned jointly by Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan Police to check the drug inflow into their states, the DGP said.

The meeting will be attended by senior police officials of the three states, Saini said.
