Missing for the last two days, 34-year-old Baljinder Kumar, a Rehri-Fari union leader, was found dead under mysterious circumstances here on Saturday morning.

Resident of New Azad Nagar, Basti Jodhewal, Kumar's mutilated body was found on the railway lines near Ladhowal.

The police identified the body through the deceased's diary and mobile phone lying nearby, while his motorcycle has been missing.

According to the railway police, the preliminary investigations pointed that it was a case of suicide. The police have not yet registered a case and handed over the body to the family after conducting an autopsy.

Renu Bala, wife of the deceased, said her husband went missing with his motorcycle two days ago. Despite repeated attempts to contact him, he could not be contacted as his mobile phone was switched off, she said, adding that they later approached the Basti Jodhewal police station on Friday evening and filed a missing person report.

On being contacted by the police, Bala said, she reached the spot to identify the body.

Railway police station-house officer (SHO), sub inspector, Baldev Singh, said the dead body was cut into pieces and it was a case of suicide.
