Defending champions Reliance defeated Bengal by 77 runs to register their second consecutive win in the 21st All India JP Atray Memorial cricket tournament on Thursday.In a lopsided contest played at the PCA Stadium, Reliance batted first and posted a challenging total of 280 (all out) in the given 50 overs.
They were assisted by Smit Patel, who top scored with 64 runs and also added 57 and 81 runs with Akshdeep Nath (34) and Rakesh Solanki (38), respectively, for the opening and second-wicket partnerships. For Bengal, Sorabh Mandal (2 for 54) and S Banerjee (2 for 45) were the most successful bowlers.
Chasing, Bengal were well served by Sudeep Chatterjee’s 118, yet they failed to achieve victory. The team was bowled out for 203 in 46.2 overs. For Reliance, Ketul Patel (2 for 23) and Yogesh Nagar (2 for 34) shared the spoils. Sudeep Chatterjee of Bengal was named man of the match for his brilliant ton.
In the other matches, Madhya Pradesh defeated ONGC by 173 runs, while Air India got the better of Indian Oil Corporation by six wickets. In the last match of the day, FCI defeated Players ITC by 45 runs.
