A day after granting bail to controversial actress Rakhi Sawant in a case of hurting religious sentiments, a local court on Friday cancelled it as she failed to appear in the court for hearing.

The court of judicial magistrate Vishav Gupta issued fresh non-bailable warrants against the actor who failed to produce a bail bond from a local resident. The next hearing of the case is on August 7.

Rakhi is facing a case related to alleged objectionable remarks against sage Valmiki. The complaint is a Ludhiana lawyer Narinder Aadia.

On Thursday, Rakhi appeared appeared in the court clad in a burqa (veil) and furnished two bail bonds worth Rs 1 lakh each. The court had accepted her bail bonds on the condition to produce surety bond from a local resident. However, she returned to Mumbai and failed to appear in the court. As the court orders were not followed, the bail plea was dismissed.

The court had earlier issued non-bailable warrants against Rakhi last month and directed police to ensure her presence in the court on July 7.

“I went to the court and I was tortured there very badly. A group of people even used abusive words. What was my mistake? I did nothing wrong. The court granted me bail, but now once again the warrant has been issued against me,” Rakhi said in a statement.

“I don’t want to go to Ludhiana. Why can’t they pass the case to Mumbai court. Where is women security? I never wanted to be in a burqa. But I have my own story, ‘Lipstick Under My Burqa’ and I really need help,” she added.

A Punjab Police team had gone to Mumbai in April to arrest her. However, it returned empty-handed as she was not found at her given address.
