With no cables laid in the area near Rose Garden by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), students of Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Students are still waiting for a telephone connection.
School authorities have applied for a phone and broadband connection on August 7 in BSNL office, Bharat Nagar, and after about two weeks nobody has reached the school to provide the phone connection. The school had already submitted the fee and completed all other formalities.
Talking to the Hindustan Times, officiating principal Anoop Kumar Passi said, “It is difficult to communicate with the hostel security and even in the school we need a telephone connection. We have applied for the connection two weeks ago and the authorities must convey us the reason for the delay.”
He added even teachers from the school visited BSNL office to enquire about the connection but the BSNL official responded that they would soon provide a connection.
“We need a broadband connection as well as we have to email information to the project director of the Society for Promotion of Education for Poor and Meritorious Students of Punjab and usually we need to reply immediately,” he noted.
A school teacher at condition of anonymity said, “A phone connection is required in both, the school and the hostel, as parents keep calling teachers on their cell phones whenever they want to talk to their children. So if the school gets the phone connection, the parents can easily contact on it and it will provide a relief to teachers as well.”
When contacted CS Bhanot, general manager of BSNL, Bharat Nagar, said, “We have not laid cables in the area due to which we are unable to provide telephone connection to the school. We also understand that in a school telephone is required and we will provide the connection to the school in next three days.”
