Residents to sue MC over failure to lift garbage

After the A2Z group has failed to lift the garbage from the service lane and area outside the under pass, near the Aggar Nagar colony entrance, the residents have decided to serve a legal notice to the municipal corporation here. The non-lifting up of garbage has led to unhygienic conditions in the area, especially during the rainy season.

Earlier too, the residents had complained about the situation, but the MC officials and A2Z group, which has signed an agreement to lift the garbage, has turned a blind eye towards it. The residents have also claimed that the dump was unauthorized, but the MC had been ignoring their request to shift it.

Even the MC is not taking any steps to make the area a garbage free zone. However, recently a warning was also issued by the local bodies department to the A2Z officials to ensure proper lifting of garbage.

“We will issue a legal notice to the MC soon, if it fails to maintain hygiene in the area. We are being forced to live under unhygienic conditions as the garbage is not lifted for days together. Earlier too, we had to face such situations,” said Pankaj Jindal, a resident of Aggar Nagar.

He added, “The problem has worsened during the rainy season. If MC does not take any step, then we will be forced to serve a legal notice to them.”

BK Goyal, another resident said, “Costly interlocking tiles were installed along the service lane, but what was a need to spend money if garbage was to be dumped there. We want that the MC should shift this dump to another place at the earliest.”

A similar scenario could be seen at Dugri, outside Khalsa College for Women and near Aarti Chowk. The residents have demanded that the garbage should be lifted three times a day from each dump.

When contacted, A2Z group vice-president BPS Chauhan said, “We will ensure the lifting up of garbage. The road that leads to main dumping zone at Tajpur road has been damaged, due to which some of our vehicles got stuck and broke down. We have also complained about it to the MC, but no steps have been taken to repair that road.”
