As the New Year heralds, HT spoke to people from different walks of life in Majha belt and found out what resolutions, plans and message they have for 2014 and beyond.

"This year, I will try to strike a balance between my professional and family commitments. My team at Amritsar Improvement Trust will try to change the face of the city by executing all the projects."

Message: There is no shortcut to success. Hard work, dedication and honesty are the key. More importantly, be sensible voters.

"I will work hard to improve efficiency, accountability and transparency in the system. We will make sure that officials remain accessible to all, including the poor, who at times are of reach of the residents."

Message: The youth which is the future of a country. Rather than indulging in show-off of latest phone and luxury cars they should utilise their time on setting goals for future.

"I was little stressed last year due to certain deadlines. I have understood that excess of everything is bad. I will ensure to strike a balance between leisure and work, which is vital for a quality, peaceful life."

Message: It is good to question the system and go beyond something that confines us. I would request parents to support their children's talent.

"Our party will continue to play the role of a good opposition. We will raise our voice if Punjab is exploited in any manner by the ruling government. Lavish spending on kabaddi cup was not fair when other issues needed urgent attention."

Message: We must protest if we see something unjustified is happening around us. If we believe something is bad, we have the right to prevent it.


"This year, I want to experiment with acting and a film direction as well. And hopefully, I will be able to prove myself. I will make sure that I do not repeat the mistakes that I have made in the past."

Message: Pursue your interests. Following passion makes the life beautiful.

"We were busy with renovation work at our theatre last year. By March, people will experience a technologically advanced theatre. I want to give more opportunities to theatre artists, playwrights and directors. I am proud of Bharti Singh, Rajeev Thakur, Chandan Parbharkar etc who have performed here".

Message: We must understand the importance of our vote. We need to vote for right candidate.

"After trying my hand at anchoring and singing, I will work in films this year. I will give my best as an actress. Like last years, I will continue to focus on my fitness, which is very essential."
