In a major embarrassment to the Bajwa family, the differences between Rajya Sabha MP Partap Singh Bajwa and his brother Fateh Jang Singh Bajwa came to fore on Saturday, when younger Bajwa insulted his brother in the presence of hundreds of people here at Dalla Mour near Qadian.
According to the information available, Bajwa was supposed to make a public announcement that his wife and sitting MLA from Qadian Charanjeet Kaur will not contest the forthcoming assembly elections. Instead of her, he will support the candidature of Fateh Jang Singh Bajwa from their ancestral seat.
Promised by his brother, Fateh had organised a grand function at Dalla Mour, where Partap was to be welcomed by Fateh and in return Partap will make his public announcement, but when Partap tried to leave the venue without making announcement, Fateh along with his supporters surrounded his car and asked Bajwa to make the announcement that he would contest the elections from Qadian instead of Charanjeet Kaur. Though, Partap tried to convince him to reach home after which they will sort out the matter, but the livid Fateh denied to listen anything. On seeing Fateh’s aggression, his supporters started raising slogans against Partap.
Seeing the things going out of hand, senior Bajwa left from the spot along with his supporters after which their family loyalist Manohar Lal Sharma convinced both the brothers and the trio hold a secret meeting at their home. After meeting, Partap finally accepted Fateh’s demand and called a press meeting, where he declared Fateh’s candidature from Qadian assembly.
Sources said tension was simmering between the two brothers, after Partap Bajwa was elected as Rajya Sabha MP and sensing younger brother’s aggression, Partap, who was on a tour of Bhoa constituency had called Fateh’s friend on Friday night to intervene into the matter, but the later showed his helplessness.
To avoid any embarrassment, Partap agreed to make the announcement regarding Fateh’s candidature from Qadian which was conveyed to him and the later organsied a big welcoming function at Dalla Mour.
It is pertinent to mention here that even during the last assembly elections in 2012, Fateh was very keen to contest from Qadian assembly constituency, but Partap being a local MP managed to get ticket for his wife. Even during that time, Fateh even threatened to join SAD, but the matter was sorted out after their mother Gurbachan Kaur Bajwa intervened.
Denying of any spat with elder brother, Fateh said it is our family matter and it has been resolved amicably. On being questioned about slogans, he said, his supporters had raised slogans in his favour not against anyone. “I don’t have any resentment against my brother,” he added.
