Abundant snowfall this year has brought cheer on the faces of orchardists in the district as horticulture experts have said the conditions are suitable for a good crop of apple.
Deputy director of horticulture department, Kullu, BS Rana told HT that this was the right time for new plantation in apple orchard as there was sufficient moisture in the earth, which was required for new plants to sustain.
Snowfall in parts of the state will prove beneficial for horticulturists and agriculturists as weather is good for apple plants, which require more chilling hours for a good crop, added Rana.
Orchardists are happy with the climatic conditions and they have started cultivation in their orchards as weather has become good in the district.
Horticulturist Nakul Khular, a native of Raisen in Kullu, said orchardists had applied manure to the plants. “The manure requires adequate quantity of water in the land for its dilution and now it will give maximum benefit to the plants,” he added.
In Kullu, a district where economy of people mostly depends on seasonal crops like apple and vegetable, abundant snow is considered boon.
