As many as five unidentified miscreants abducted a 70-year-old city resident before dropping him in Mullanpur Dakha and fleeing with his car on Sunday evening.

In his complaint to the police, Gursewak Singh Gill, a resident of Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, said he was heading home from Ayali village in his Hyundai i20 car, when he took a halt near Westend Mall on Ferozepur Road. He alleged meanwhile, two youths approached his car and asked him for directions to an address.

Gill alleged that when he rolled down the windowpane to answer the youths' query, they barged into his car, before overpowering him and taking control of the steering.

He claimed three more youths appeared and settled on the back seat of his car.

"The miscreants asked me to keep quiet and drove the car towards Mullanpur Dakha. They later dropped me at Mor Kalima village and fled with my car," Gill told the police.

According to Gill, he made a phone call to his family, who sounded the police. The Mullanpur Dakha reached the spot and drove Gill to Sarabha Nagar police station.

Inspector Mandeep Singh, SHO of Sarabha Nagar police station, said according to information provided by the victim, the accused were communicating in Punjabi and were in their 20s.

A case has been registered against the five unidentified miscreants for abduction and car jacking.

"The police have launched a manhunt for the arrest of the accused. We have alerted all police districts on this stretch," said the SHO.
