Unidentified persons tried to loot a branch of the Punjab Gramin Bank in Waryana village situated near Leather Complex on the Jalandhar-Kapurthala road late Friday night but fled after they failed to open the room of the bank with gas cutters.

However, they took away the CCTV cameras with them. The incident came to light early Saturday morning when passersby noticed that the main door of the bank (shutter) was open and immediately informed the bank officials and police. The bank had no security guard on duty during the night.

After getting information, police and forensic experts rushed to the bank and started investigation.

A case has been registered against unidentified persons under Sections 380 (theft in dwelling house), 454 (lurking, house trespass or house-breaking in order to commit offence) and 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) at Maqsudan police station.
