A day after Rohtak college students Aarti and Pooja sought police protection alleging threat to their lives at a press conference here, the Rohtak police on Tuesday provided them with police cover. Accepting the plea of victims, the Rohtak superintendent of police has formed an 11-member special investigation team (SIT) headed by DSP Yashpal Khatana to probe the matter.
After a video showing two sisters from Sonepat thrashing three boys —Kuldeep, Deepak and Mohit who molested them aboard a moving roadways bus November 28 went viral, the police had arrested the accused.
However, another video showing the sisters thrashing another boy that surfaced on social networking sites created doubts in public over legitimacy of the victims’ claims.
As of now, the accused were booked under Sections 323(causing hurt), 354 (outraging modesty) and 34 (common intent) of the Indian Penal Code.
Rohtak SP Shashank Anand told mediapersons that a new section under the Information Technology Act would be added in the FIR as demanded by the victims. More development would take place as the probe moves ahead, he added.
Meanwhile, a girl from Dalit community, Moniya Rani has also recorded her statement in support of the accused before police. She claimed that she was present in the roadways bus when the incident occurred and dubbed the accused boys, of Asan village from where she also hails, as innocent.
