All the eight accused in the brutal gangrape and murder case of a Nepalese woman were remanded into 14-day judicial custody after they were produced in a local court here on Wednesday.
Seven of the accused, who were identified as Rajesh Kumar, Sunil Kumar, Sarwar, Manbir, Sunil Kumar, Pawan and Pramod Kumar, belong to Gaddhi Kheri village of the district. Eighth accused Santosh Nepali, who used to work as a domestic help with one of the co-accused, hails from Nepal. The ninth accused, Sombir, who had been on the run to evade arrest, had committed suicide on the Haryana-Delhi border.
The accused were remanded in police custody after they were arrested last week following a public outrage over the brutal gangrape and murder of a mentally challenged 28-year-old woman who had come here from Nepal for her treatment in December and was living at her sister's place.
Meanwhile, police said that they had recovered as evidence several items used by the accused in committing the rape and murder of the woman, who went missing on February 1 and was found murdered in the agricultural fields of Bahu-Akbarpur village on Rohtak-Hisar road on February 4.
