Rohtak deputy commissioner Shekhar Vidyarthi has taken cognisance of media reports regarding a ban on skirts imposed by the Model School here and asked the school authorities to explain their stance in this regard.
Addressing a news conference here on Tuesday, the deputy commissioner, who is also the ex-officio chairman of the Model School management committee, said he had sought a report regarding the reported change in dress code.
Meanwhile, various delegations comprising prominent residents and representatives of various social organisations met the DC and expressed their resentment over the school’s move.
They said taking a one-sided decision without consulting students or their parents was unacceptable.
However, some other social groups and organizations supported the school’s decision to ban skirts.
Notably, the authorities of Model School has banned skirts for girl students from Class 7 to 12 and asked them to wear 'salwar-kurta' from the coming academic session.
Sources said the DC also visited the Model School (main branch) in the evening and discussed the issue with school authorities in the wake of strong opposition to the move.
