The murder case of KFC manager Maninder Kaur took another turn when Sandeep Kaur, 28, roommate of the victim, allegedly tried to end her life by slitting her wrist in a hotel room near Clock Tower on Saturday. She also consumed sedative pills in a large quantity before slitting her wrist. She was rushed to Civil Hospital. The police have been suspecting that Sandeep along with her husband, Deepraj Singh, had murdered Maninder Kaur.

Deepraj Singh escaped from the hotel at 7am. Sandeep, who is 8 months’ pregnant, said she had taken the extreme step due to depression. She said no one in the family was supporting them when they were facing allegations of murder.

The division no. 1 police have registered a case of attempt to suicide against Sandeep. The Sadar police had booked Sandeep Kaur and her husband Deepraj Singh of Punjab Mata Nagar on the charge of Maninder’s murder. They were at large from the day the victim’s body was found.

According to inspector Surinder Mohan, SHO of the division no. 1 police station, said Sandeep and Deepraj Singh had taken a room in Sunrise Hotel near Clock Tower on Friday evening. Later, Sandeep said she tried to commit suicide as the police was trying to arrest her and her husband.

Her husband left the hotel at 7am on Saturday, following which she consumed sedative pills and slit her wrist to end life. The hotel staff sounded the police when they came to know about the incident. They police rushed her to the hospital. Sandeep told the police that she belonged to Pasi Nagar and had married Deepraj Singh of Daad village around six years ago.

As they had solemnised the marriage against the will of their parents, the families had deserted them. They used to live as paying guest in a room at Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, where she met Maninder Kaur.

Sandeep said they had been facing hard time for the past few years, but their family was not supporting them and now the police were trying to frame a case against them. She claimed that she had nothing to do with the death of Maninder. ADCP city-3 Joginder Singh said the police would arrest and interrogate the girl. He said the girl and her husband were drug addicts. According to the autopsy of Maninder Kaur, .12-bore bullet was found in the head. Deepraj Singh possesses a licensed weapon. “We have also questioned a youth of KFC, Patiala, who was close to the deceased, but till now nothing has been found against him,” said the ADCP.

Maninder Kaur was found dead in Basant Avenue on Tuesday evening. The Sadar police had registered a case of murder against unidentified accused. Later, the police suspected Sandeep Kaur and her husband Deepraj Singh for the murder. The accused were absconding and the police officials were conducting raids at various places for their arrest.
