Rs 10 lakh robbed from ATM in New Amritsar

In yet another incident of ATM (automated teller machine) robbery, unidentified miscreants ran away with Rs 10 lakh from a Punjab National Bank ATM machine in New Amritsar area on Thursday.

Confirming the incident, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Bikram Pal Singh Bhatti said, “The incident took place early on Thursday morning when two unidentified miscreants entered the ATM cabin broke open it by gas cutter and fled with money. We have been informed that around Rs 10 lakh was robbed, but it could be more once the bank verifies its records.”

Claiming to have a lead into the case, the DCP said: “The incident took place at around 4am and the accused took around 10 minutes to execute the crime. The suspects seem to be very professional, but we have major clues to crack the case.”

The DCP said due to use of gas cutter minor fire broke out at in some of the ATM cabins.
Police have started the probe after registering a case against unidentified accused.

Meanwhile, the city police are closely examining CCTV footage obtained from the ATM.

Although police claimed that the robbed amount was around Rs 10 lakh, bank officials pegged the loss a Rs 15 lakh.

Notably, ATM machines are on the radar of robbers and recently a series of robbery took place in area of the Amritsar rural police.
