Rs 11-lakh jewellery stolen from Ludhiana hotel during wedding

Jewellery worth nearly Rs 11 lakh kept in a bag was stolen from a wedding function at Hotel Maharaj Palace on Ferozepur Road here on Sunday night. The Division 5 police have registered a case against unidentified person(s) and investigations are on.

The guests nabbed a waiter of the hotel, suspecting him to be a thief and handed him over to the police. His questioning is on. The police are scanning the video recording of the function to identify the accused.

Hemant Kumar of Dugri tied the nuptial knot with Poonam of Moga at the hotel. During the ‘milni’ (introduction) ceremony, the groom’s aunt kept the jewellery bag on a chair from where it went missing. Division 5 SHO inspector Beant Juneja said police were scanning the video footage of the function to identify the accused.

It is second such incident in two days. On Saturday evening, during a wedding at another hotel, a bag containing Rs 2.5 lakh had disappeared.
