As many as 8,074 beneficiaries have been provided `12.11 crore as financial assistance through the online system under the Shagun Scheme from 2009 to March 2014.
Stating that the amount was released online to the beneficiaries, newly appointed deputy commissioner Parminder Singh Gill revealed that, under this scheme, a financial assistance of `15,000 is given by the Punjab government on the marriage of a girl, who attains the age of 18, irrespective of her caste with the condition that the annual income of her family should not exceed `30,000 in urban areas and `27,500 in rural areas.
Giving payment details, Gill said that a sum of `2.45 crore was paid to 1,639 beneficiaries during 2013-14 and 251 remaining cases were still with the head office, Chandigarh.
"During 2012-13, a sum of `3.14 crore was given to 2,095 beneficiaries and during 2011-12, a total of 1,023 beneficiaries got financial assistance of `1. 53 crore," the DC added.
