In the fourth instance of loot in the district over the past 45 days, two unidentified motorcycle-borne masked miscreants looted Rs 20 lakh, at gunpoint, from the cashier of a petrol pump in Patran town in broad daylight on Monday.

The cashier, Kashmir Singh, was carrying the money to deposit in the State Bank of Patiala, Patran, on a scooter, when he was waylaid by the accused around 11:30am near the bank. Preliminary investigation suggests that the two looters had followed the victim for some distance before executing the crime.

“We have procured the CCTV footage in which the accused are seen snatching the money, before fleeing on their motorcycle,” deputy superintendent of police Swaranjeet Singh said.

He added that the victim had been questioned for several hours on the exact sequence of events that led to the crime. A case under Section 392 (robbery) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the two unidentified accused.
